Materials you need at home:
  • (7) fat quarters of assorted cream fabrics for the background blocks, borders, and applique
  • (7) fat quarters of assorted orange fabrics for borders and applique
  • (2) fat quarters of assorted purple fabrics for the borders applique
  • (2) fat quarters of assorted black & white print fabrics for the borders
  • (1) fat quarter of solid gold fabric for the applique
  • 70cm (3/4 yard) of black-on-black print fabric for the sashing strips and binding
  • 30cm (3/8 yard) of solid darkest brown fabric for the applique
  • Scraps of green, solid black, and aqua fabric for the applique
  • (10) pairs of medium-large black buttons to use as eyes
  • Quantity of lightweight fusible webbing. I use and recommend Heat-n-Bond Lite
  • Dark brown stranded embroidery thread for the pumpkin’s tendrils
  • Matching thread to suit your favourite applique stitching method
  • A piece of wadding (batting) measuring at least 44 1/2in x 63 1/2in for the quilt
  • 2.3m (2 1/2 yards) of 42in wide coordinating backing fabric for the quilt
  • A piece of wadding (batting) measuring 20 1/2in square for the pillow
  • A piece of coordinating backing fabric measuring 20 1/2in square for the pillow
  • Applique mat or Teflon sheet (optional, but highly recommended)
  • (1) 18in cushion insert (optional)
  • General sewing supplies
  • Supplement the fabrics in the requirements list with fabrics from your stash to add visual interest to your quilt.
  • I like to use buttons on my quilts but they aren’t suitable for children under three (3) years of age due to them being a choking hazard. Replace the buttons with appliqué or embroidery when you are making the quilt.
