Grab some of your favorite DK leftovers and create something fancy for your home! This is a decorative mug mat with a dramatic brioche motif, surrounded by two-color garter stitch stripes and two-color brioche borders. The design has a very Art Deco look, resembling the top of the Chrysler Building in New York! This mug mat is knit flat, and is the perfect size for your morning cup of coffee or tea.

Skill level: Beginner - Intermediate. Techniques used: brioche knit, brioche purl, simple brioche increases and decreases, knitting, purling.

This is a great project for two-color brioche beginners!! A small project, no need to worry about fit and you can play with color! Add some fun stripes, or create a neutral piece! Think of it like a practice swatch that you can put out on your favorite coffee table! Quite the conversation piece. And two-color brioche creates a gorgeous reversible fabric, so now it’s like you have 2 mug mats! I love placing the Contrast Side up, and using colors with striking contrast!

This pattern is both written and charted, for your convenience!
