Style description:
Minimum effort maximum results. Lou dress/top is so easy to make, but looks stylish and is so comfortable. The dress/top features a boat neck, short or long dolman sleeves and asymmetrically draped bodice that is fitted on the hip. The bodice part is loose and roomy thanks to the asymmetric drapes that form diagonally from shoulder to waist and also on one side of the waist. There is no fixed place for these drapes. They are meant to drape naturally depending on the body type, fabric, sleeve position and how you like to wear. The bodice extends to become an elbow-length dolman sleeve on versions A and C, while the B and D versions have long sleeves that are fitted below the elbow.
Lou dress must be the most versatile piece you can add to your wardrobe. You can dress it down with trainers for a casual look. Add some accessories and elegant shoes to make it a perfect work or evening wear. The same goes for the top, which works great both with jeans and elegant culottes as an example.
Fabric recommendation:
Light to medium weight FOUR-way stretch fabrics is ideal for this pattern. The fabric should stretch at least on the cross-grain. It is ideal if the fabric stretches both ways and also has a fluid drape. We recommend fabrics like single jersey, polyester, rayon, viscose and modal jersey fabrics or similar weight knit fabrics.
While solid colours show the beauty of the drapes, geometric prints and stripes create a striking effect changing direction with each fold and twist of the Lou top and dress.
Skill level:
Beginner. It can't get easier than this. This is easier than a T-shirt!
Measurements and Seam allowances:
This pattern includes measurements in Metric and Imperial systems in all files. Seam allowances are 1cm (3/8") for all seams unless marked otherwise on the pattern for the particular seam or hem.
*This is a digital product, and you will download 5 files after purchasing: - Instruction file (Fabric recommendation, size and garment measurements chart, pattern and cutting layout, step-by-step sewing instructions, lengthening/shortening recommendations) (7 pages) - Patterns for A0 and copy shop printing (2 pages) - Assembling map for A4-US letter files. This file helps you to put together home printed pages quickly and efficiently. (1 page-doesn't need printing) - Patterns for home A4 and US Letter printing. Pages are numbered and letter coded across the rows and columns, making it very easy to tape them together. (32 pages) -Projector file (6pt black lines against a white background; mirrored pieces, full pieces with the cut on the fold line)
- All pattern files are layered, meaning you can print/use just the size you need, or all sizes nested together. Leave the layers named 'Grid' and 'Signs and Texts' visible, when you are printing 1 size only. All sizes are also colour coded, making it easy to differentiate the sizes if you print them nested together or get them printed in a copy shop. For deselecting the sizes you don't want to print, open the pattern PDF file with Adobe Acrobat Reader (free)
*Print ACTUAL SIZE, auto-rotation of the page enabled on your printer settings. Test by printing the 1st page only, to make sure you are printing on the correct scale. There is a test square to measure on the first page.

Hi, I am Nafisa. I am a Technical Designer and a Garment Engineer by day. I have 10+ years of experience working alongside high-end fashion designers creating their collections and red carpet ensembles. Many people who have work experience like me, end up having their own luxury fashion label at some point. But this was never a goal for me. I dreamed of helping other people to achieve their creative potential, rather than buying ready-made clothes I would make. And I decided to bring the aesthetic level, fit quality and finesse of the industry to the hobby sewists.
I love seeing your take on my pattern designs; whether it is a fabric choice or a hack. So please tag me and use hashtags in the instructions sheet when you share your makes on social media. I try to make very clear step by step instructions for each pattern using either diagrams or photos, depending on what would be easier to understand. Additionally, I make video tutorials for some of the patterns which you can find on my Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIXUHAZ5dEHtknaaF8IulnA Let's get to know each other better @capsule.patterns
