Description

Here is an adorable twirly skirt just perfect for any occasion the Topsy Twirly Skirt for girls sizes 1 to 12 years. This delightful skirt will please any little girl and is so easy to make. The gorgeous flared skirt can be made in at least three versions as shown in the sewing tutorial. The bunny appliqué and straps are optional. Older girls will prefer just the plain skirt. It is possible to add many different types of trim; the tutorial shows how to make and add a contrast bias binding to the hem. The pattern comes as a 4 paneled skirt with a pull-on elastic waist; no zip required. The straps require two buttonholes. The finished length of the skirt is to just above the knee. The shape is full and flared at the hem and gently gathered at the waist by the elastic waistband. Mix & match fabrics and trims to create your own unique and charming little skirt.

Sizes: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10,12 to fit girls aged 12 months to 12 years approximately. Always check the size chart to select the best pattern size to use; height and waist measurements are the best guide. The elastic waist gives flexibility to the sizing.

Experience: Suitable for a beginner with some sewing experience. In its basic form the skirt is very easy and quick to sew. The appliqué is simple and easy to make, just follow the instructions closely. The bias binding is optional; a simple top stitched hem can be used if preferred.

Fabric: A wide variety of light to medium weight fabrics are suitable e.g. poplin, homespun, light weight drill or denim, pin-wale corduroy, minimal stretch knit fabrics can also be used.

PDF SEWING PATTERN: To print you need an ordinary desk top printer. The pattern prints on A4 [210x297mm] or 8.1/4”x11.5/8” plain paper. If you are in the USA you can use Letter size paper but the page border will be narrower on the length or you can use Legal size paper. The pattern file includes a very detailed sewing tutorial with step by step photos. The computer made digital pattern comes as a color coded, full size range nest with seam allowances included. Instructions for printing and assembling the pattern are included. All seam allowances and cutting instructions are marked on the pattern pieces. For more information on Digital PDF patterns please see the 'About PDF Patterns' page.

Mobile phones and iPads may not be compatible with the pattern file; download and save to a computer before printing. Please follow the printing instructions included in the pattern file.

Materials you need at home:
  • Fabrics: Light to medium weight woven fabrics or minimal stretch knits are best. Quantity chart in pattern file.

  • Bias binding: This can be made as shown in the tutorial using the pattern provided; alternately use ready-made 25mm/1” bias binding. When sewn the binding must have a folded finished width of at least 1cm/3/8”. A contrast fabric in light weight cotton is best for making bias binding.

  • Buttons: 2 x 22-25mm/3/4”-1” for the straps.

  • Elastic: 25mm/1” wide elastic for waistband. See chart for lengths.

  • Thread: matching all purpose thread for plain sewing and overlocker.

  • Applique [optional]: Use light weight cloth to avoid it becoming too heavy and stiff when finished. Choose a thread colour that will work on both parts or use a matching colour for each fabric. To sew the appliqué a zig-zag stitch setting on your machine is required. The following amounts are for all sizes.
    1/ Appliqué adhesive backing = 30x40cm/12”x16” piece.
2/ Fabric print for face & outer ears = 20x35cm/8”x15” piece.
3/ Fabric print for inner ears = 15x20cm/ 6”x8” piece.
4/ Dark coloured fabric or felt for eyes = 5cmx5cm/2”x2” piece.
