Materials you need at home:
  • 35cm (1/2 yard) each of medium purple-on-purple, blue-on-blue, gold-on-gold, and light gold-on-gold print fabrics for the background blocks
  • 45cm (1/2 yard) of red-on-red print fabric for the background blocks
  • (1) fat quarter of medium-dark blue-on-blue print fabric for the background blocks
  • 10cm (2in) each of (8) red, (5) blue, (4) green, (4) purple, and (6) gold print fabrics for the framing strips and borders
  • 10cm (4in) each of (5) red, (5) purple, (5) green, and * (5) blue fabrics for the Flying Geese blocks
  • 20cm (1/4 yard) each of (4) light-medium cream, and (4) dark cream to light gold fabrics for the Flying Geese blocks
  • 55cm (5/8 yard) of red small print fabric for the binding

  • (1) fat quarter of cream-on-cream print fabric for the flower applique

  • (1) fat eighth in each of (8) light brown and (4) dark brown fabrics for the moose

  • (1) 9in square in each of (4) red, (3) blue, (3) green, and (2) purple fabrics for the antlers

  • Scraps of fabric in green for the flower stems, and in red, blue, gold and purple for the remaining applique

  • (11) pairs of assorted buttons for their eyes

  • Quantity of lightweight fusible web

  • Matching thread to suit your favourite applique stitching method

  • A piece of wadding (batting) measuring at least 81 1/2in x 84 1/2in

  • 4.3m (4 3/4 yards) of 42in wide coordinating backing fabric

  • General sewing supplies

  • Supplement the fabrics in the requirements list with fabrics from your stash to add visual interest to your quilt.

  • I like to use buttons on my quilts but they aren’t suitable for children under three (3) years of age due to them being a choking hazard. Replace the buttons with appliqué or embroidery when you are making the quilt.
