A striking ear-flap/chullo Hat with a distinct pixie crown. This design makes the most of yarns with long colourways, although most variegated or hand-painted yarns would work well.

Skills required: 
Knit & purl sts, short rows (w&t), provisional cast-on, Kitchener stitch, knitting into the row below (brioche), increases & decreases

Gauge: 
16 sts x 20 rows to 4in/10cm on 5mm needles over St.St.

Note: 
Fit is determined by row gauge – if your gauge differs, adjust your needle size to achieve the correct fit. This Hat requires a specific number and placement of panels, as outlined in the pattern.

  • 146 (171, 199) yd/133 (156, 181) m heavy Aran or chunky weight, single ply yarn (Sample shown in Noro Kureyon (219yd/200m per 100g; 100% Wool))
  • 29yd/26m yarn for a 6x6in/15x15cm swatch in St.St.

  • Pair 5mm/UK6/US8 straight needles or size needed to obtain gauge

  • 5mm crochet hook

  • Approx. 3yd/3m waste yarn
