Materials you need at home:
  • 95cm (1 1/8 yards) of light cream-on-cream print or solid fabric
  • 45cm (1/2 yard) each of two medium cream-on cream print or solid fabrics
  • 20cm (1/4 yard) total each of assorted red, blue, gold, and green print fabrics for the Sawtooth Star blocks
  • 15cm (1/8 yard) each of red, green, gold, and purple solid or print fabrics for the snake border
  • 15cm (1/8 yard) of black & white small check fabric for the snake border
  • 1.55m (1 3/4 yards) of dark blue-on-blue fabric for the border
  • 50cm (1/2 yard) total of assorted brown fabrics for the applique
  • (1) fat eighth of white-on-white print fabric for the applique
  • An assortment of gold, black, red, blue, black & white, purple and green fabrics for the applique
  • An assortment of skin-toned solid fabrics for the applique
  • (17) pairs of small-medium black buttons for eyes
  • (3) small buttons for the cowboy’s shirt, (7) assorted buttons for the neckerchiefs, and (5) pairs of beige/brown buttons for the cow’s and horse’s (nostrils)
  • Quantity of lightweight fusible webbing
  • Stranded embroidery thread for the facial features
  • Matching thread to suit your favourite applique stitching method
  • A piece of wadding (batting) measuring at least 71in square
  • 3.6m (4 yards) of 42in wide coordinating backing fabric
  • Applique mat or Teflon sheet (optional, but highly recommended)
  • General sewing supplies
  • Supplement the fabrics in the requirements list with fabrics from your stash to add visual interest to your quilt.
  • I like to use buttons on my quilts but they aren’t suitable for children under three (3) years of age due to them being a choking hazard.
  • Replace the buttons with appliqué or embroidery when you are making the quilt.
