A Rustic Horseshoe Original Design, all rights reserved, copyright 2009-2016.
I began creating my unicorn horns in 2012 when a customer requested I create one for a live horse based on the unicorn horns I made for my stick horses. Over the years I have made adjustments to improve the fit and function.
Plush horns are a safe choice to use on horses who will be around children, etc.
There are two strap options in this tutorial. One option is Easy Beginner and the other is Confident Beginner as it is a little more challenging.
SIZE OF COMPLETED HORNS
MINI SIZE: browband is 18 inches, horn is 6 inches tall
PONY SIZE: browband is 21 inches, horn is 8 inches tall
COB SIZE: Browband is 22 inches, horn is 10 inches tall
HORSE SIZE: browband is 24 inches, horn is 12 inches tall
DRAFT SIZE: browband is 28 inches, horn is 17 inches tall
You can customize the band lengths for your specific needs, these lengths include wrap around length to wrap around the headstall.
HOW IT WORKS
This horn is designed sit across the brow of a horse or pony who is wearing a bridle or halter. The band wraps around the halter or bridle on each side and velcros to itself, making it adjustable. It also has a stabilizing poll band that sits between the ears, across the poll of the horse, and attaches to the head stall. This band stabilizes the horn by keeping from flopping forward. The base of the horn is reinforced to prevent it from beveling and is slightly wedged to help with proper positioning.
