Lightweight Fabrics Guide
Lightweight Fabrics are a great choice for a variety of dressmaking, quilting, and other craft projects. Some of the more popular lightweight fabrics include chiffon, poplin, crepe, georgette, voile, and lawn. They vary in the type of weave used to create each textile and range from slinky & silky to stiff and airy.
Makerist Tips:
- Cotton lawn or poplin for classic summer dresses like the classic Rhea Dress
- Crepe, georgette, or voile for a drapier summer top like Finja
- Lower the tension of your sewing machine and do some tests, lighter-weight fabrics can bunch and warp during sewing on higher thread tensions
- Consider french-seaming your projects for a more polished look - lighter-weight fabrics can handle smaller french seams which adds a professional touch to your project.
