I wanted to learn a couple of new skills this year, 2019. I decided on improving my knitting skills, exploring texture & colour, I also wanted to learn 'Blackwork', something I have wanted to do for many years. I started with a study of squares & went from there. I used 2 strands of black DMC embroidery thread for the study, but I feel that using 1 strand would of made the work much neater. I practiced mindfulness while stitching, & I was able to take this to work, before I started to teach ballet. I created the larger pattern, which is a larger version of the last 8th square at the top of the work. Next month I want to experiment with colour & squares.

I am about to launch into a similar blackwork exploration and I believe
your research (which you have so generously shared) will be of
immeasurable value for me. In hindsight, do you have any suggestions
to add before I begin. I have many good reference sources in my
library, including websites, but I know that practice and knowledge
gained from it are often the real way forward. You have been there.
That’s why I’m asking. Avoiding potholes in the road has always
saved time and energy in my experience.
