Alegranza is a small island on the Canary archipelago, uninhabited a heaven for birds and with dry vegetation. It is a very special place and very yellow. I made the main version in yellow-green colour and a complementary version in golden yellow!

This Alegranza shawl is also special. It looks complicated but in fact it is a lace shawl for beginners, very easy to knit. You start with a garter tab cast on (a tuto is joined to the pattern) and then you work the lace pattern, which is easy to memorize and knit. After making few swatches I selected a lace pattern found in a Barbara Walker book (Eyelet Puff). It is a little bumpy and you cannot make it lie completely flat, except for the last row. So, the pattern starts closed like flower bud and finishes open like mature flower. I love it. I chose one of my favourite edgings, classical and easy to memorize. For fun, and to help to follow the rows, I have added some beads. The shawl is lightweight, graceful and feminine. The perfect piece to bring on a journey! In the main version the motifs are staggered; in the complementary version the motifs are centered one on top of the other.
