Materials you need at home:
  • 95cm (1 1/8 yard) of aqua-blue batik fabric for the background rows
  • 60cm (3/4 yard) of medium-dark blue batik fabric for the background rows
  • 55cm (3/4 yard) of variegated aqua-blue fabric for the sashing strips and inner side borders
  • 15cm (6in) each of dark blue fabric and medium aqua-blue fabric for the checked sashing strips
  • 1.9m (2 1/8 yards) of medium blue batik fabric for the border
  • 15cm (6in) each of red, orange, yellow and pink fabric for the binding
  • Assorted scraps of orange, yellow, pink, purple, green, red and brown fabrics for the appliqué
  • (1) skinny eighth of white fabric for the appliqué
  • (1) fat quarter each of black, and grey fabric for the appliqué
  • A piece of wadding (batting) measuring at least 66 1/2in x 94 1/2in
  • 4.8m (5 1/4 yards) of 42in wide coordinating backing fabric
  • Quantity of lightweight fusible webbing
  • Matching thread to suit your applique stitching method
  • General sewing supplies
  • Supplement the fabrics in the requirements list with fabrics from your stash to add visual interest to your quilt.
  • I like to use buttons on my quilts but they aren’t suitable for children under three (3) years of age due to them being a choking hazard. Replace the buttons with appliqué or embroidery when you are making the quilt.
